Tesla Giga Berlin Treehouse protesters permitted to stay

Tesla Giga Berlin’s treehouse protesters camp have been permitted to stay by the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court. 

On Thursday, May 16, the Brandenburg police filed a complaint about the treehouse camp protesting against Tesla Giga Berlin’s expansion. 

Earlier this year, the local police requested a strict ban on entering the buildings throughout the camp. In response to the Brandenburg police’s claim, the Tesla Giga Berlin treehouse protesters filed for an application with the Postdam Administrative Court. 

In March, the Postdam Administrative Court ruled that the Brandenburg police’s requirements did not consider the fundamental right of freedom of assembly “to the necessary extent. After the Postdam Administrative Court released its decision, the Brandenburg police filed a complaint with the OVG Berlin-Brandenburg. 

The Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court (OVG) rejected the complaint and ruled in favor of the Tesla treehouse protesters camp. It stated that the Brandenburg police “did not sufficiently substantiate” security concerns. The OVG’s decision can not be appealed. 

The Tesla Giga Berlin treehouse protest was initially supposed to last until May 20, 2024. A spokesperson from the “Stop Tesla” initiative announced that the treehouse protest’s occupation will be extended.

Elon Musk reveals date Tesla Cybertruck will get Full Self-Driving

Elon Musk has revealed when the Tesla Cybertruck will get Full Self-Driving.

As the Cybertruck has been out for about six months now, one major feature is yet to be rolled out on the all-electric pickup: Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite.

There are many questions to be answered about the Full Self-Driving suite and the Cybertruck. It has not been equipped with the driver assistance feature due to several reasons, likely the steer-by-wire system and the camera positioning, which are vastly different from the other vehicles in Tesla’s lineup.

However, Tesla seems ready to roll out Full Self-Driving on the Cybertruck based on comments from Musk. Last night, Musk said that the automaker will begin rolling out the suite on the all-electric pickup “in late June.”

Musk initially stated that the next Full Self-Driving release, version 12.4, will be released internally this weekend and will make its way to a limited number of beta testers outside of the company next week. He said it will have major improvements, and interventions will be needed at a “5x to 10x improvement” from the current version:

“Btw, 12.4 goes to internal release this weekend and limited external beta next week. Roughly 5X to 10X improvement in miles per intervention vs 12.3.”

Cybertruck will not receive this release; it will receive the next version, which is 12.5. Musk said:

“12.5 will be out in late June. Will also see a major improvement in mpi and is single stack – no more implicit stack on highways.”

He then confirmed in another post on X that Cybertruck will get Full Self-Driving with the 12.5 release.

Full Self-Driving’s release on the Cybertruck will be a major test for the automaker as it will be the first rollout on this type of vehicle. This presents an interesting challenge, but it is likely something Tesla will navigate through in time. As Tesla could potentially expand into other vehicle types in the future, this will be the first test of this nature.

Sweden’s largest union joins strikes against Tesla

Strikes lodged in Sweden against Tesla have lasted six months, and this week, the country’s largest union announced that it will also back the labor effort.

Along with over a dozen unions that have launched simultaneous action in support of IF Metall’s strikes against Tesla, Sweden’s largest private trade union, Unionen, has now joined in support of the strikes. The union on Tuesday began a blockade against Tesla for workers at DEKRA Industrial AB, a firm that performs inspections on vehicles.

“It is fundamentally important to protect our collective agreement system,” said Martin Wastfeldt, Unionen Negotiation Head, in a statement to Reuters.

The goal of the ongoing strikes is to get Tesla to sign a collective bargaining agreement, despite the fact that the company and CEO Elon Musk have been outspoken opponents to unions and organizing around the world.

The Unionen blockade is expected to stop DEKRA Industrial AB from performing inspections of pressure vessels, doors, or vehicle lifts on Tesla vehicles.

IF Metall launched strikes against Tesla last fall, with several sympathy strikes following. The union has taken to helping state agencies and companies withhold license plates from Tesla, block the company’s shipments at ports, and attempt to stop new Superchargers from connecting to the grid, to name a few.

Earlier this month, Tesla-certified repair shops recently regained the ability to work on the company’s vehicles a few weeks ago, seemingly easing the strikes. Musk said last month that he thought the labor issues in Sweden had largely subsided.

“I think the storm has passed on that front,” Musk said during a call on X spaces. “I think things are in reasonably good shape in Sweden. I feel good about the future. The long term future of Tesla is strong.”

Following the statement, IF Metall leader Marie Nilsson followed up, noting that the strikes were far from over as the union attempted to reach a collective bargaining agreement with the company.

“The strike is ongoing and we have no signs of reaching an agreement in the near future,” Nilsson said. “We have had a few sittings with the Swedish management during April, but … Tesla has shown little willingness in discussing an end to the conflict.”
