  • Making your own car video

Since the launch of the camera phone, car owners across the globe have gone mad for video, making hundreds of thousands of small video clips and uploading them to sites such as YouTube and Vimeo. Video has become an increasingly popular topic across a range of different age groups and by the looks of it will continue to grow at an unbelievable rate, YouTube is now the 2nd biggest “search engine” in the WORLD and attracts millions of users each week.

You can actually make your own video by using your camera phone and edit it using the software provided with your phone. If you are looking to make a more professional video for uploading to YouTube or sharing with friends you can use what they call an action camera. These are video cameras which have been designed for outdoor use and come in a variety of different models, some of which are even waterproof and can be used during water sports.

Here at Maxxd we have tested a number of action cameras, these include the GoPro Motorsport, GoPro Helmet Hero from GoPro UK, the Action Sports Cam and more recently a brand new camera from HD POV.

After many trials, tests, heated discussions and more tests we cannot come to a decision on which one we like the best. However we do feel its a toss up between the GoPro and HDPOV, they both have their uses and benefits and both fall within similar price brackets….

We shall see what happens in the next six months and keep our eyes peeled for more reviews 🙂

  • Tyresure. Travel Safely and Economically This Summer

Tyresure, the UK’s market leading Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) manufacturer is urging motorists to check their tyre pressures this holiday season.

With schools now closed, many families are looking to embark on long road trips to their UK or European holiday destinations. In many cases they could be wasting fuel, or worse still, tempting fate due to incorrectly inflated tyres. The single most common cause of all tyre-related accidents.

Tyresure’s neat TPMS utilises military-spec technology on each road wheel to display an accurate tyre pressure and temperature reading for each tyre, direct to the driver in real time. This can be accessed permanently, or set as a ‘pre-flight check’ which then updates the driver if preset safety parameters are breached. This is displayed through a compact display screen that shows safe pressures in green, changing to red if the pressure or temperature moves to a dangerous level. The system works on any type of vehicle from a family saloon to the biggest SUV and once the sensors have been fitted to the wheels, it’s a true ‘Plug & Play’ fitment.

Research undertaken by a leading tyre company reveals that just a 6 psi drop in tyre pressure leads to an approximate 10% increase in fuel consumption, whilst rapidly accelerating tyre wear by up to 30%! With the complete system costing just £179.00 including VAT, most drivers will see a financial return in the first year of average driving – especially with motorway fuel priced at over £1.30 a litre!

Of course, the big benefits aren’t just financial. Optimum tyre pressures, mean increased safety and more predictable handling. Reduced consumption also brings reduced emissions. So, it’s something we can all realistically do to reduce our carbon footprint.
