  • Here’s a behind the scenes look at “Fast & Furious 9” vehicular carnage

After over a year of coronavirus-induced delays, “F9,” the ninth “Fast and Furious” movie, is finally scheduled to hit theaters June 25. In the meantime, this video previews the vehicular carnage you can expect in the latest film in the franchise.

The short video includes some footage we’ve seen in previous trailers, cut together with behind-the-scenes shots to give an idea of how different stunts were performed.

Earlier trailers also revealed that the plot will center around the appearance of Jacob Toretto, played by John Cena, the previously unmentioned brother of Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto. The siblings seem to have some issues that can only be worked out by destroying a lot of cars.

    no title

The vehicular casualties shown here include a Chevrolet Nova, Jeep Gladiator, numerous police cars and military vehicles, and both classic and modern Dodge Chargers. We also get some glimpses of a crash during an oval-track stock-car race, indicating “Fast and Furious 9” will revisit the death of the Torettos’ father, which hasn’t been mentioned since the first movie.

The video also offers a better look at the A90 Toyota Supra driven by Sung Kang’s character, Han, who appears to be alive despite his apparent onscreen death in “Tokyo Drift” (and shown again in “Furious 7”). The Supra wears a shade of orange similar to the iconic A80 Supra from the first movie, with a black stripe reminiscent of the Veilside wide-body Mazda RX-7 Han drove in “Tokyo Drift.”

Other trailers also showed a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R and a rocket-powered Pontiac Fiero, so there should be plenty to see when the latest “Fast and Furious” movie finally premieres next month.

  • MANTHEY RACING GT3 RS 6:50 NURBURGRING LAP VIDEO

Watch as the Manthey Racing GT3 RS completes a lap of the Nurburgring in 6:49.6 as it goes within 10 seconds of the unofficial record-holding Manthey Racing GT2 RS. Yep, Manthey is no stranger to mind-blowing Nurburgring lap times.

When it comes to producing incredible lap times, Manthey Racing has made a name for itself. After Porsche took the crown of the Nurburgring with the GT2 RS and a lap time of 6:47, Manthey Racing went about beating that feat with its own version of the GT2 RS, completing the same distance in 6:40, an impressive 7 seconds quicker. It must be noted that this lap time relates to a 20.6km distance, which does not include the T13 section. With that section included, the GT3 RS MR completed the lap in 6:54. It’s no surprise though, given its motorsport history and connections with Porsche. In fact, as of 2013, Porsche owns 51% of the outfit.

With the Manthey Racing GT3 RS, the company didn’t go about adding more power and instead focused all of its efforts on the chassis and body. The development work it put in on the GT2 RS meant that all the parts could be, in effect, an evolution of themselves, and include a new adjustable coilover setup, aerodynamics and upgraded brakes.

That aero package includes new canards, optional rear-wheel covers and that giant wing, which generates so much extra downforce that the deck it sits on had to be reinforced with carbon fibre to avoided breaking.

All in all, the Manthey Racing GT3 RS package comes in at a whopping £55k.

  • EV startup Arrival plans dedicated car for Uber drivers

Uber wants its drivers worldwide to make the switch to electric vehicles and has set targets of 2025 for the city of London and 2030 for Europe and North America.

But rather than have its drivers only rely on established automakers to source their cars, Uber has partnered with British EV startup Arrival to develop a dedicated car for ride-hailing fleets.

The car is simply known as the Arrival Car, and it’s slated for launch in the second half of 2023. Uber wants the car to be affordable and is inviting its drivers to get involved with the design process.

A teaser shot released by Arrival on Tuesday hints at a pod-like car with seating for five. The final design for the Arrival Car will be revealed before 2021 is out.

This isn’t the first time an EV startup has been tapped to develop a dedicated vehicle for a business. America’s Rivian has developed an electric van specifically for Amazon deliveries.

Arrival is particularly suited to the task as the company is focused on commercial vehicles. It’s previously unveiled a delivery van and bus. Where the company plans to stand out is through a lean production process, referred to as the microfactory. Basically, a series of robots taking up an area spanning just 4,000 square feet assembles whole vehicles using modular, pre-assembled components moved into place on autonomous sleds.

Arrival has previously announced plans to build microfactories at locations in North and South Carolina, as well as in Bicester, United Kingdom.

Although Arrival hasn’t delivered any vehicles yet, the company is already publicly traded on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol ARVL. It went public in March via a SPAC deal with CIIG Merger Corp, raising approximately $660 million in the process.
