  • Porsche hypercar concepts, Rezvani Hercules 6×6, BMW iX: This Week’s Top Photos

    Porsche shocked the automotive world this week by revealing many of its secret design studies and concept cars developed over the past 15 years. One of them was this Vision 918 RS which was developed last year as a vision of a successor to the 918 Spyder.

    Ferrari showed us its new SF90 Spider, the open-top version of its SF90 Stradale plug-in hybrid supercar. The convertible features Ferrari’s retractable hard-top roof, and as a result makes the coupe a bit redundant as it offers the best of both worlds.

    California’s Rezvani returned with a new model, and this one is bigger than anything else the coachbuilder has shown us in the past. It’s also more powerful thanks to what’s lurking under the hood—a tuned version of the supercharged V-8 normally found in a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

    Even though Mercedes-AMG is testing prototypes for an updated version of its GT 4-Door Coupe, the Affalterbach tuner continues to fine tune the current model. In fact, AMG has made its GT 4-Door Coupe faster around a racetrack without having to resort to adding more horsepower.

    BMW this week revealed a battery-electric SUV called the iX. Previously referred to by its iNext code name, the iX will challenge the likes of the Tesla Model X and Cadillac Lyriq when it reaches showrooms in early 2022.

    A refreshed Land Rover Discovery boasting revised styling, a new infotainment system, and mild-hybrid tech was also revealed this week. It’s due to reach showrooms early next year.

    EV startup Rivian released pricing and additional specifications for the battery-electric R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck. Deliveries are set to begin in summer of 2021. Launch Editions for both vehicles are coming first, with the R1T Launch Edition starting from $75,000 and its SUV counterpart from $77,500.

    And finally, an Italian company by the name of Maggiore revealed a stunning restomodded Ferrari 308. Though the car looks almost stock, only the chassis, engine block and doors were left untouched.

  • Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4, 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost, 2021 Lucid Air: This Week’s Top Photos

    Mercedes-Benz fitted its EQC with a 4×4 package complete with portal axles to preview an electric future for off-roading. Not only does the resulting vehicle look tough, it is also extremely capable.

    Another tough-looking vehicle this week was Subaru’s one-off WRX STI built for Gymkhana 11. Ken Block’s former rally racing teammate, Travis Pastrana, will pilot the vehicle, which will make him the sole person other than Block to drive in one of the drift-filled stunts.

    Rolls-Royce has redesigned the Ghost, and we tested the new generation this week. The car has big shoes to fill, as its predecessor is the most popular Rolls-Royce in the marque’s 116-year history.

    Acura this week previewed its redesigned 2022 MDX headed to showrooms next year. The new crossover SUV will be longer, wider and lower than the outgoing generation, and it will also feature a sporty Type S variant packing 355 hp.

    An alternative to the MDX above will be a new flagship SUV from BMW related to the X7, and likely badged an X8. It won’t simply be a coupe-like version of the X7, as this prototype reveals.

    And finally, Porsche was out testing its next-generation 911 GT3 RS. The new track star is being developed alongside a new 911 GT3 R race car, and judging by a spy video the performance will be nothing short of amazing.

  • 2021 Audi R8, 2021 Jaguar XF, 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer: This Week’s Top Photos

    The 2021 Audi R8 lineup has seen the R8 V10 model replaced by a rear-wheel-drive R8 V10 RWD. The new model is lighter and more affordable than the R8 V10, but it’s also down on power.

    Ford has demonstrated the overlanding potential of its modern Bronco with a cool concept. Aptly named the Bronco Overland, the concept hints at some of the accessories Ford could offer when the Bronco starts sales later this year.

    Another Bronco in the headlines was a high-performance option along the lines of a Raptor, which was spotted testing in prototype form. The jury is still out on the new name, though the prototype suggests the vehicle is coming with seriously flared wheel arches and 17-inch beadlock capable wheels with 37-inch off-road tires.

    Jaguar has updated its XF sedan for 2021. There’s new looks and tech, though the XF Sportbrake wagon will no longer be offered in the United States.

    Jeep’s new full-size, three-row SUV was spotted testing. The vehicle we’re talking about is the new Wagoneer, which in production guise looks remarkably similar to the concept version unveiled in September. It’s due out next year together with a redesigned Grand Cherokee.

    One of the cars we tested was the 2020 Aston Martin Vantage. We found it excels as a sports car, approaching the Porsche 911 for handling prowess, but it’s expensive and the interior controls can be confusing.

    Another Aston Martin in the headlines was a speedster blending parts from the Vantage and DBS Superleggera. It’s coming with a 710-horsepower version of Aston Martin’s 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-12, and just 88 examples are destined to be built.

    And finally, Mazda confirmed the return of the rotary engine in 2022. It won’t power a new sports car, however. Instead, Mazda will use the rotary as a range extender for its MX-30 battery-electric SUV.
