    We also tested the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 again, and are still left wondering whether a vehicle like this should really be this fast. Then again, it delivers on every marketable promise with its big knobby tires, loud V-8 burble, and ridiculous off-road capability.

    Chevrolet this week finally confirmed a new Z06 based on the C8 Corvette. It’s coming for the 2023 model year and will almost certainly pack a naturally aspirated V-8 with a flat-plane crank and over 600 hp.

    Lotus revealed its new Emira sports car this week, the British automaker’s last model to feature an internal-combustion engine of any sort. The Emira has two engine options to choose from; one is the same supercharged Toyota engine powering the outgoing Evora, and the other is a new unit sourced from Mercedes-Benz AMG.

    Lamborghini unveiled the final version of the Aventador, the Aventador Ultimae. The stunning supercar is also the last Lamborghini to be powered purely by a V-12 engine, as the Aventador’s successor is set to feature a V-12 in a plug-in hybrid configuration.

    BMW revealed a new generation of its 2-Series coupe. The car is due at dealerships in November, and is bigger and more powerful than the model it replaces. And yes, there’s an M2 variant being cooked up.

    Shelby beat Ford to the launch of a V-8 performance pickup based on the latest F-150, with its new 2021 Ford Shelby F-150. The Ford tuner extraordinaire has added a supercharger and a host of other upgrades to an F-150 Lariat, and the resulting pickup has an insane 775 hp on tap.

    Genesis revealed the Sport version of its redesigned G80 sedan this week. Genesis is holding back details until closer to the market launch this fall but we know the new G80 Sport will come with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering.

    Jeep revealed the smaller, two-row sibling to the three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Jeep has only provided a first look at the mid-size crossover as the full reveal is scheduled for next month’s 2021 New York International Auto Show, but we know a plug-in hybrid option will be available.

    We spent more time behind the wheel of the latest Porsche 911 Turbo S, this time the coupe. The car is hard to beat in most performance metrics, though for most buyers the slightly tamer Turbo will probably suffice. There’s no wrong option here.

    And finally, we spied Volkswagen’s new electric van that many are calling the spiritual successor to the iconic Microbus. The debut isn’t far but we’ll only see the van in the United States in 2023.

  • Bugatti Centodieci, Lamborghini Huracan STO, Ford Bronco Sport: This Week’s Top Photos

    A prototype for Bugatti’s Chiron-based Centodieci was spotted testing at the Nürburgring this week, and we have some video footage. Bugatti will build just 10 examples and the first one will be delivered sometime in 2022.

    Another car spotted at the Nürburgring this week was Lamborghini’s new Huracan STO. Lamborghini was there with a whole pit crew, suggesting that it wants to make an attempt on the lap record for production cars. The time to beat is 6:43.61.

    One of the vehicles we tested this week was Subaru’s new Outback Wilderness. While the rugged wagon was built to be better off-road, many of its changes make it better to drive on pavement as well.

    Another vehicle we tested was Acura’s TLX Type S, which is shipping out to showrooms this month. The handsome sports sedan appeals as a value-priced daily driver with a sporty flair, but it lacks the track chops of European rivals.

    One more vehicle we tested this week was the Ford Bronco Sport. It may be related to the Escape, but the baby Bronco can hold its own on rough terrain.

    Another Ford in the headlines this week was the battery-electric F-150 Lightning. It’s priced to start from less than $40,000, which isn’t bad considering even the base model will come with 426 hp and an estimated 230 miles of range. Top-end models will have 563 hp on tap.

    Mercedes-Benz showed off the body of its next-generation SL. This time around the AMG skunkworks is developing the SL, with the new convertible to share its new underpinnings with a next-generation GT sports car.

    And finally, German tuner Techart was spotted testing a prototype for its next-generation GT Street R based on the Porsche 911 Turbo. The new super sports car is expected to pack close to 800 hp.
