  • 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor, 2022 Nissan Frontier: This Week’s Top Photos

    Cadillac’s true successor to the CTS-V made its debut this week. The new super sedan goes by the name CT5-V Blackwing, and it is the most powerful Caddy to date.

    The CT5-V Blackwing was joined by a smaller CT4-V Blackwing which replaces the former ATS-V. Both Blackwings go on sale this summer as 2022 models.

    Ford was out testing a new high-performance option for the Bronco along the lines of a Raptor. The jury is still out on the name, though rumor points to it being called a Bronco Warthog.

    Ford was also spotted testing the Raptor version of its redesigned 2022 Ranger. The new Ranger will be a twin under the skin with the Bronco, so it’s not surprising to see the performance versions of both vehicles being tested together.

    Ford’s redesigned 2021 F-150 spawned its own Raptor variant this week. The new F-150 Raptor is powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6, just like its predecessor, but we’ve been told that a more potent Raptor R is coming complete with a V-8 under the hood. In other words, Ford will soon have an answer for the Ram 1500 TRX.

    Nissan this week revealed its new 2022 Frontier which comes standard with 310 hp. The mid-size pickup truck has been redesigned but still shares a lot mechanically with its predecessor.

    Nissan also revealed a new 2022 Pathfinder. The redesigned SUV comes standard with a V-6, plus a 9-speed auto instead of its predecessor’s continuously variable transmission.

    Mercedes-Benz AMG was spotted testing a new variant of its GT 4-Door Coupe. Expected to be badged a GT 73e, the new variant may end up boasting over 800 hp.

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, 2022 Ford Ranger, 2022 Nio ET7: This Week’s Top Photos

    Mercedes-Benz was spotted testing a redesigned GLC-Class. The popular SUV looks to be growing in size for its next generation, and new proportions should also result in a sleeker, sportier look compared to the current model.

    Mercedes was also spotted testing a redesigned SL-Class. The new SL-Class will be sportier than its predecessor thanks to a lightweight soft-top roof and a chassis developed by the Mercedes-Benz AMG performance skunkworks.

    Another vehicle out testing this week was a redesigned Ford Ranger. The new mid-size pickup truck is coming up shortly, and this time the U.S. is expected to receive a high-performance Raptor variant.

    For performance fans on a budget, Hyundai is cooking up a Kona N. It’s coming with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 and 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and is expected to debut later this year, although its availability in the U.S. has not yet been confirmed.

    Nio expanded its lineup with the ET7. It is the first sedan from the electric-vehicle startup, and it’s due to hit the Chinese market next year with battery options ranging up to 150 kilowatt-hours in size.

    Toyota this week unveiled its new GR010 Hybrid race car designed for the Le Mans Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship. The automaker will also have a version with even more power designed for the road, a prototype for which has also been revealed.

    We also spent a week with the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser to remind ourselves why it’s the ultimate SUV for a select few and the wrong tool for the job for most consumers. Sadly, the 2021 model year is the last for the Land Cruiser in the U.S.

    And finally, Cadillac this week provided the first glimpses of its new flagship sedan, the Celestiq. The battery-electric cruiser is the true Cadillac flagship we’ve all been waiting for, though it will probably end up priced like an ultra-luxury model since Cadillac plans to hand build it in very low volumes.

    Jeep revealed its redesigned Grand Cherokee this week, in a new three-row option dubbed the L (a two-row option is still coming). Jeep has made its new Grand Cherokee a lot more premium in look and feel, and it should also drive better than its predecessor thanks to a new platform.

    Another new SUV in the headlines this week was Bentley’s updated Bentayga Hybrid. The eco-friendly SUV is the first of two plug-in hybrids Bentley will launch in 2021, the automaker has confirmed.

    We also got our first look at a modern 550 Spyder concept that Porsche developed at the time of 2008’s global financial crisis. We’re only seeing it now thanks to photos posted to the Instagram account of former Volkswagen Group design chief Walter de Silva.

    Another Porsche in the headlines this week was a modified 911 from Singer, dubbed the All-Terrain Competition. The California company has designed a modern take on the 911 SC Safari rally car for a customer, who plans to take it racing. The wild racer is based on a 964-generation 911 that’s had virtually every element changed in the transformation.

    We also named the Chevrolet Corvette as the winner of the Motor Authority Best Car to Buy 2021 award. We tested numerous new cars over the course of 2020, Covid-19 restrictions notwithstanding, and the Corvette stood out in almost every respect. It’s not perfect though, so we also noted what we would like changed.

    One of the vehicles we spied this week was a soft-roader from Ford that’s likely to replace the Fusion sedan. There are rumors Ford plans to keep the Fusion name, or a variation of it, so don’t be surprised if the soft-roader ends up being called something like Fusion Active.

    Another vehicle we spied was the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The electric sedan is set for a debut shortly and will challenge high-end versions of the Tesla Model S and other electric flagship sedans. This week Mercedes also showed a new dash-wide digital screen that will be offered in the EQS.

    America’s Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus may be a small company, but it has big ambitions. SCG is in the final stages of development of a race car for the new Le Mans Hypercars class of the World Endurance Championship, and this week we saw the latest design for its entry.
