    California’s Gunther Werks returned this week with another carbon-bodied stunner based on the 993-generation 911. This time the company delivered a wide-body speedster to complement its coupe from a few years back.

    The first model based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP dedicated electric-vehicle platform was revealed this week in the form of the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle is a handsome crossover coming to dealerships this fall as a challenger to the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4.

    Last year Gordon Murray showed off the T.50 supercar as a spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 he designed in the early 1990s. This week he revealed an even more extreme version of the T.50 designed for track use.

    Land Rover announced some tweaks being made to the Defender for 2022. Among them is the long-awaited availability of a V-8 powertrain, specifically a 516-hp version of Jaguar Land Rover’s familiar 5.0-liter supercharged mill.

    The redesigned 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was revealed. It’s an impressive sedan (and wagon if you live outside the United States), though sadly there aren’t any 6- or 8-cylinder engine options planned—not even in the high-performance variants from AMG.

    Formula One driver Sebastien Vettel accumulated an enviable collection of Ferraris during his career driving for the Italian supercar maker. Now he’s off to Aston Martin, so he’s selling off those fabulous cars. Luckily, Aston Martin makes some desirable cars, too.

    Another hypercar in the headlines this week was the new 007 Le Mans Hypercar racer from Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. The new season of the World Endurance Championship is nearly upon us, and the 007 has just made its initial shakedown test ahead of April’s season opener in Portugal.

    And finally, BMW was spotted testing a prototype for its next M2. We currently expect the car to debut in 2022 with a detuned version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 borrowed from the M3 and M4.

  • 2022 McLaren Artura, 2022 GMC Hummer EV, Aston Martin Valkyrie: This Week’s Top Photos

    McLaren’s newest supercar is the Artura, and it’s a plug-in hybrid that relies on a V-6 as its internal-combustion component. Peak power is 671 hp and there’s enough battery capacity for a small electric range.

    Another new car revealed this week was the 992-generation 911’s GT3 variant. We’re glad to report that Porsche has stuck to the proven formula of a naturally aspirated engine, lightweight construction, and an available manual transmission.

    The new 911 GT3, just like the last one, will eventually spawn a more civilized Touring variant. Our latest spy shots show the new GT3 Touring which should be coming later this year. Notice it doesn’t have the huge rear wing of the regular car.

    Another upcoming vehicle spotted testing this week was the GMC Hummer EV. The battery-electric lifestyle pickup truck is coming this fall with up to 1,000 hp and 350 miles of range, and an SUV body style is also in the works.

    For performance fans on a budget, Hyundai has a new Kona N Line headed shortly to showrooms. The hot crossover comes with a turbocharged engine good for 195 hp, and if that’s not enough Hyundai is preparing an even more powerful Kona N for launch later this year.

    Hyundai sister brand Kia unveiled the new K8 this week. The large sedan replaces the Cadenza (a K7 in other markets), and we won’t see it on sale locally.

    Aston Martin’s CEO this week confirmed that the Valkyrie hypercar project is not dead. He said owners can expect the first examples to be delivered by mid this year, which will be roughly two years later than originally planned.

    Audi this week finally revealed its super sedan based on the platform of the Porsche Taycan. It’s called the E-Tron GT, and there’s both a standard version and spicier RS version from Audi Sport.

    Another reveal this week was Mini’s updated 2022 Cooper SE electric Hardtop. While the powertrain hasn’t changed, buyers have the option of a paint fade for the roof, shown here with three colors.

    Nissan has redesigned the Pathfinder and the popular crossover, just like its predecessor, will twin a new QX60 from Infiniti for 2022. The design of the new QX60 has already been previewed in concept form and this week we learned some of the first specs.

    A Swiss company by the name of Micro is developing an electric car whose design has been influenced quite heavily by the iconic Isetta—right down to the front-opening door. The car was originally due to start production in 2018 but Micro this week revealed a reengineered version that’s much safer than before.

    We learned this week that the redesigned 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor will be available with two different frames. Which frame buyers will get will depend on whether the truck is ordered with the standard 35-inch tires or the optional 37s.

    Another Ford pickup truck in the headlines this week was the 2021 Ranger equipped with the available Tremor Off-Road Package. The package adds raised suspension, Fox 2.0 monotube dampers, redesigned front knuckles, and 17-inch wheels shod with 32-inch Continental General Grabber A/TX all-terrain tires, and we’ve tested it.

    Ferrari was spotted testing its upcoming SUV. To be called the Purosangue, it will be a high-riding Prancing Horse boasting four doors and four seats. Right now we’re still at the test-mule stage, but the basic shape of the SUV is already clear.

    Porsche Taycan Turbo S sets indoor land speed record of 102.6 mph – February 2021

    And finally, Porsche set a new world record with its Taycan. The record was for the highest speed achieved indoors by any vehicle, and the Taycan’s figure was in the triple digits.
