Genesis this week kicked off its European launch with the reveal of a sexy G70 wagon. It’s based on the updated 2022 Genesis G70 sedan, and sadly we won’t see it in the United States.

Electric Porsche Macan development

Porsche plans to offer an electric Macan alongside an updated version of the current gas-powered model. While we’ve previously spotted the updated gas model, Porsche this week provided a glimpse of the new electric Macan for the first time.

Another Porsche out testing was an updated Cayenne. Porsche’s Cayenne range is about to undergo its mid-cycle refresh and the changes look to be more substantial than normal. Our latest spy shots show a prototype for the more dynamically styled Cayenne Coupe.

2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS production at plant in Sindelfingen, Germany

Mercedes-Benz reached a major turning point with the start of production of its first dedicated electric vehicle, the 2022 EQS. The big sedan is due in showrooms this fall with a 108 kilowatt-hour battery, or enough for 400 miles of range.

2021 Lexus IS350 F Sport

Lexus has a new generation of its IS sedan on its hands, one that boasts bold styling and a sport-tuned chassis. The car is more of a heavy update of the outgoing IS than a true redesign, and this becomes evident after a quick drive.

2021 Acura TLX Type S

An alternative to the IS is Acura’s new TLX, which comes in sporty Type S guise. The TLX Type S is serving as the official pace car at this weekend’s Mid-Ohio round of the 2021 WeatherTech Sports Car Championship, ahead of the showroom appearance later this month.

Chevy engineers were spotted testing a hotter version of the mid-engined C8 Corvette, and it’s likely the new Z06. We hear it will run a naturally aspirated V-8, and some video footage of the tester seems to confirm it.

2022 Ineos Grenadier prototype

The Land Rover Defender-inspired Ineos Grenadier is undergoing durability testing ahead of the start of production in 2022. That’s about a year later than originally planned, but a lot has changed in the past year, and that’s before you factor in the disruptions caused by the coronavirus.

Ford has offered a number of Shelby-branded Mustangs in recent years, but you can also purchase a tuned ‘Stang direct from Shelby American. The company’s latest is the 2021 Ford Shelby GT which comes standard with 480 hp but can be upgraded to 700-plus-hp.

2021 Genesis GV80

One of the vehicles we tested this week was a BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class rival from Genesis. Called the GV80, the luxurious mid-size crossover appeals with good looks, superb build quality, and non-intimidating tech.

Buyers looking for more performance from their mid-size crossover should definitely consider the current third-generation Porsche Cayenne. A prototype for an updated version was spotted this week.

Another crossover out testing was an updated BMW X3. The X3 is among BMW’s best-selling vehicles, and the automaker plans to keep the momentum going with some mild tweaks.

Ferrari 812 Competizione A

This week Ferrari unveiled the 812 Competizione, the hardcore version of the 812 Superfast. There’s both a coupe and an open-top version, the latter featuring a targa-style roof with a removable panel made from carbon fiber.

Ford NASCAR Next Gen Mustang race car

NASCAR this week unveiled its Next Gen race car, in Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota guises. Among the changes are independent rear suspension, modular construction, a 5-speed sequential transaxle, and 18-inch, center-lock wheels.

Two Duesenbergs are coming up for sale, including a car originally purchased by a president of Coca-Cola. The cars will be sold at Mecum’s Indianapolis auction later this month.

2021 Ford Explorer Timberline

And finally, Ford unveiled the Explorer Timberline. With more ground clearance, all-terrain tires, increased departure and approach angles, and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, the Timberline promises to be the most capable Explorer off the road.

This week we took a spin in the 2021 Audi RS 7 Sportback. The svelte super hatch is an upgrade over the old car in nearly every way. It’s more luxurious, features better technology, offers superior comfort, and the handling has improved as well, but there’s something still missing.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392

Another vehicle we tested was Jeep’s new V-8-powered Wrangler. It’s called the Wrangler Rubicon 392, and if you’re looking for a Wrangler with 0-60 mph times well under 5.0 seconds, this is the one for you.

Teaser for Lotus Emira due in 2022

Lotus this week announced the new Emira sports car as the replacement for the Elise, Exige and Evora. The car isn’t due for a reveal for a couple of months but we have some teaser shots that hint at what’s to come.

Aston Martin V12 Speedster in DBR1 specification

Last year Aston Martin revealed a bespoke speedster powered by a V-12 engine. Just 88 examples are destined to be built, and this week we learned of an exclusive specification that honors Aston Martin’s DBR1 race car that won overall at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Cunningham 60th Anniversary C8 Corvette

The Aston speedster wasn’t the only car built to honor a Le Mans winner in the headlines this week. Cunningham Automotive has a modern Corvette honoring the Briggs Cunningham C1 that took home a class victory in the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Toyota GR010 Hybrid LMH race car at the 2021 8 Hours of Spa

Speaking of Le Mans, today is the first race of the new Le Mans Hypercar class in the World Endurance Championship. Only Toyota and Alpine will have contenders in the class this year, and of these only Toyota will have an actual hypercar racer.

2022 Hyundai Kona N

Hyundai revealed its new Kona N compact performance crossover. The vehicle arrives for the 2022 model year and blurs the lines between hot hatch and crossover with its agile moves and 276-hp turbo-4.

GTO Engineering Squalo

And finally, an expert restorer of classic Ferraris is now building its own cars from scratch. The first of these was revealed this week as a Ferrari 250 GTO-inspired model called the Squalo, which will be powered by an in-house developed 4.0-liter, quad-cam V-12 paired to a manual transmission.
