  • 2021 Lucid Air, 2021 Cadillac CT5, 2022 Genesis G70: This Week’s Top Photos

    California EV startup Lucid unveiled the production version of its long-awaited Air sedan this week. The sleek four-door will accelerate to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and pass the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars to ever enter production. Lucid also this week teased its next model, an SUV code-named Project Gravity.

    Another major reveal this week was Maserati’s MC20 supercar. The car has a striking design and is powered by Maserati’s newly developed 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6, which is good for 621 horsepower and will see the MC20 sprint to 62 mph in under 3.0 seconds. For quicker acceleration, the company is working on a battery-electric version.

    Cadillac this week announced its 2021 CT5, which benefits from a few updates including the addition of Super Cruise. While the 2021 model won’t reach dealers until the fall, the 2020 model is still on sale. Read about it in our latest review.

    Volkswagen was spotted testing a mid-size electric crossover SUV that’s likely to be badged an ID 6. It’s the production version of last year’s Roomzz concept, and the styling is almost identical to the handsome show car.

    Another vehicle spotted testing was a redesigned BMW X1. The compact crossover looks to be taking on a more aggressive design for its next generation, and this time around there will be a battery-electric option to choose from.

    And finally, contributor Alex Kalogiannis promised his mom he’d bring home a Rolls-Royce some day. She always appreciated the finer things, but never got to see her auto journalist son in a Roller as she died of cancer in June 2019.     Porsche’s second-generation Panamera came in for its mid-cycle update this week, with some new powertrains on the list and the styling and chassis receiving revisions, too. The Panamera is a seriously quick car for its size. In fact, one variant has lapped the Nürburgring faster than a C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

    Another Porsche in the headlines this week was the 911 GT3 RS based on the 992 generation of the 911. A prototype was spied and revealed many of the unique design details pegged for the car.

    The first trailer for the new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson dropped this week, and it provides a look at the Batmobile the “Twilight” star will use to fight crime. Production of the movie was interrupted by the coronavirus but a release date in October 2021 has been confirmed.

    Ford unveiled new Collection and Heritage Edition options for its GT supercar this week, the latter in honor of the GT40 Mk II driven by Ken Miles to victory in the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona.

    We were also treated by Ford with a ride in its 2021 Bronco Sport. It may be related to the Escape, but the baby Bronco can hold its own on rough terrain.

    One of the cars we tested this week was the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. Yes, Porsche’s 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are now available with the 4.0-liter flat-6 previously only available in the exclusive Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4 variants.

    One of the cars we spied this week was also a Porsche, specifically the Taycan Cross Turismo battery-electric wagon. It’s due out later this year but hasn’t been confirmed for local sale.

    Another vehicle we spied was an upcoming EV from Genesis. It’s one of two EVs the Korean luxury brand is out testing; the other is an electric version of the G80.

    Mercedes-AMG gave us an update on the development of its One. Powertrain calibrations for the Formula One-powered hypercar are finally complete, meaning the development team can now focus on track testing. The car is due out next year.

    There was another hypercar in the headlines this week. Historic French marque Delage made a revival with a V-12-powered hypercar called the D12. It comes with a central driving position and an 1,100-horsepower hybrid powertrain, and the people behind it want to make an attempt on the Nürburgring lap record.

    And finally, Ford’s F-150 Raptor had better watch out as Ram rolled out its 2021 1500 TRX this week, and the truck is packing a supercharged V-8 good for 702 horsepower. A Launch Edition was also revealed and all build slots for this special version managed to sell out within hours.
