  • SCG 004S, 2021 BMW 4-Series, 2022 Genesis GV70: This Week’s Top Photos

    America’s Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus was spotted testing the road-going version of its 004 supercar. The new car is coming with carbon-fiber construction, a 650-horsepower supercharged V-8, a central driving position, and a 6-speed gated manual transmission.

    Lamborghini Squadra Corse is also readying a new supercar, in this case a successor to 2012’s much-loved Aventador J speedster. The new open-top supercar was recently spotted at Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale Monza circuit, and looks to be based on the Aventador SVJ.

    A bigger and bolder BMW 4-Series is being introduced for 2021, and included in the range once again will be a convertible. This time around the designers have gone with a soft-top instead of the previous generation’s retractable hard-top.

    Audi introduced an updated A5 range for 2020, but the updated RS 5 was delayed until 2021. It continues to offer coupe and Sportback hatch body styles, as well as a 444-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 and all-wheel drive.

    Genesis released the first photos of its upcoming BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC rival. The new Genesis is called the GV70, and it’s the second of three SUVs coming to Genesis showrooms shortly. The others include the mid-size GV80 and a mystery model likely to be a compact offering.

    One SUV we won’t see in showrooms is the Hongqi E-HS9. Historic Chinese brand Hongqi, a favorite of Chairman Mao, is undergoing a revival and part of the plans include the introduction of battery-electric vehicles. The latest of these is this full-size SUV.

    Sadly, Ford confirmed the death of the Mustang Shelby GT350 after the 2020 model year. With it will go the flat-plane crank 5.2-liter V-8. The death of the GT350 comes as the Mach 1 comes online for 2021.

    And finally, one of the cars we tested this week was the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, this time on a road trip. The mid-engine Corvette is a fantastic performance car but as a grand tourer there are definitely some shortcomings.

  • Ares S1 Project, Ferrari Omologata, Toyota hypercar: This Week’s Top Photos

    Italy’s Ares Design this week revealed more photos of its S1 Project supercar based on the C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and confirmed some of the specs. The new supercar will feature a full carbon-fiber body and a naturally aspirated V-8 good for 715 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque.

    Another Italian supercar in the headlines this week was the latest one-off creation from Ferrari’s Special Projects division. It’s based on the 812 Superfast and features a design that pays tribute to the great racing GTs from the 1950s and ’60s.

    There was yet one more Italian supercar in the headlines this week, this one from coach-builder Touring Superleggera. The car takes inspiration from a 1930s-era Alfa Romeo and is based on the bones of a donor Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

    Infiniti rolled out a concept previewing its next-generation QX60. The concept hints at a very impressive redesign for Infiniti’s popular three-row crossover SUV. A redesinged version of the related Nissan Pathfinder is also coming.

    BMW’s next-generation M3 sedan and M4 coupe were revealed this week. They follow a familiar formula but have mixed things up a bit with the availability of all-wheel drive. Peak power for now is 503 horsepower.

    Toyota previewed the new hypercar based on its race car that will compete in the 2021 World Endurance Championship. It’s called the GR Super Sport, and it’s expected to pack a twin-turbocharged V-6 driving the rear wheels and an electric motor-generator driving the front pair.

    One of the cars we tested this week was Acura’s redesigned 2021 TLX. It’s based on a new platform and is bigger and more substantial than its predecessor, but it also costs more.

    And finally, one of the cars we look forward to testing is the new 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The battery-electric compact SUV starts at just over $40,000 and at launch will offer up to 250 miles of range.

  • Ferrari Portofino M, Nissan Z Proto, Engler FF: This Week’s Top Photos

    Ferrari’s Portofino was transformed into the Portofino M this week. The transformation included the addition of an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and some extra horsepower, with the new mechanicals basically lifted out of the Roma.

    BMW is working on a Tesla Model X rival that will offer more than 400 miles of range. The vehicle is code-named the iNext, and the latest prototypes are the most revealing yet.

    Another upcoming vehicle spotted testing was the next 911 GT3 based on the 992 generation of Porsche’s sports car icon. The latest shots show the new GT3 testing alongside its predecessor, providing an excellent contrast between the two designs.

    Nissan is working on a redesign for its Z sports car, the long-awaited Z35 generation. It’s expected to arrive in 2022 as a 2023 model and Nissan gaven us a preview this week with the Z Proto.

    A company in the United Kingdom unveiled a quad bike powered by a 1,100-horsepower V-10. If you’re brave enough to push it to the limit, you’ll be able to rocket to 62 mph from rest in 2.5 seconds and keep accelerating until you reach over 217 mph.

    A vehicle with similar performance to the Engler is McLaren’s Senna GTR. Five lucky customers will soon take delivery of an extra-special version packing more power and a bespoke, hand-painted livery. The individual liveries each pay homage to one of the five F1 GTR race cars that competed at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans and finished the race.

    Jaguar’s F-Pace has always been a looker but the small crossover SUV’s interior has always been wanting. Jaguar finally addressed the issue this week with an updated 2021 F-Pace that boasts an even more handsome look and revamped cabin.

    And finally, we took a spin in the 2020 Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge. Compared to the already impressive standard Dawn, the Black Badge version features a power boost and a darkened treatment with an aero cowling to stand out even more in its rarefied class.
