Tesla Model S and Model X receive discounts as Q2 nears end

It appears that Tesla’s efforts to sell as many vehicles as possible do not only extend to the Model 3. As per observations from the electric vehicle community, Tesla has rolled out discounts for inventory units of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV as well.

The two flagship vehicles appear to have received another $2,500 discount, from $5,000 to $7,500. This makes the Tesla Model S and Model X’s inventory units bang-for-the-buck purchases, considering their space, features, and cutting-edge technology.

And as per Tesla’s website, Model S and Model X that are purchased and delivered by the end of the month would also be eligible for unlimited three years of free Supercharging on their vehicle. This is a compelling incentive, especially for customers who wish to take long road trips on their new all-electric cars.

Tesla noted, however, that the free unlimited Supercharging offer for the new Model S and Model X is only available for vehicles that are delivered between April 20, 2023 and June 30, 2023. It will then be unsurprising if Tesla ends up engaging in a significant delivery initiative for the Model S and Model X in the next couple of weeks.

Similar to Tesla’s other free Supercharging promotions, the Model S and Model X’s three years free Supercharging incentive is only available for vehicles that are purchased for personal use. Used inventory vehicles, as well as cars that are purchased for businesses, are excluded from the promotion.

The Tesla Model S and Model X are the company’s flagship vehicles, though their sales have been vastly eclipsed by the Model 3 and Model Y over the years. Even with the release of the Model S and Model X Plaid, sales of the two EVs have remained a small portion of Tesla’s overall quarterly sales. With the new incentives in place, then perhaps the Model S and Model X could account for a larger portion of Tesla’s results this second quarter.

Tesla announces major milestone in 4680 cell ramp at Giga Texas

Tesla has announced a major milestone in the ramp of the 4680 battery cell at Giga Texas, confirming it has produced 10 million cells at the plant.

Tesla has been building 4680 cells for several years after unveiling the tech behind the battery in late 2020. Initially starting production at the Kato Road facility in Northern California near the Fremont Factory, Tesla expanded 4680 manufacturing the Gigafactory Texas after vehicle production began and has been using the batteries in the All-Wheel-Drive Model Y.

Tesla has been selling these Model Ys for over a year now, and the ramp-up of 4680 tech has continued.

After aiming to begin production of 4680 cells in Q3 2022, Tesla has evidently ramped the manufacturing of the battery up considerably, announcing it has built 10 million cells in Texas earlier today.

The 10 million cells produced are enough to build roughly 12,000 Model Y vehicles.

Outside of Texas, Tesla is hoping to continue ramping up 4680 production to supplement vehicles that will be fitted with those packs.

In Fremont, California, Tesla just leased a massive 210,000+ square foot facility that will be used for 4680 manufacturing, helping to get more cars with the breakthrough battery tech on the road.

Tesla looks to expand 4680 cell production with new Fremont facility

Last year, CEO Elon Musk said 4680 would be an “important” part of Tesla’s plans in 2023. Evidently, ramping up production of the cells and getting more 4680 packs into the company’s electric vehicles is a goal moving forward, and hopefully Tesla can reach a point where they are not limited with how many vehicles they can build as cell constraints have been an industry-wide issue for years.

Tesla’s camo-covered Cybertruck continues to make appearances

Tesla’s camo-covered Cybertruck continues to be seen around Palo Alto, California, as rumors of imminent initial production swirl throughout.

Earlier this week, we reported on a camo-covered Tesla Cybertruck being spotted in Palo Alto, hinting toward an imminent initial production phase at Gigafactory Texas, where the pickup will be manufactured.

Camo has been used by many automotive manufacturers to cover up designs, lines, or changes to a vehicle before it is actually released. We have reported on several automakers using the strategy when testing upcoming vehicle models, and Tesla appears to be the latest to do it.

Sightings from this week are continuing to surface as Tesla fans and buyers patiently await the vehicle’s release.

The camo design has been joked about within the community, and even CEO Elon Musk has chimed in from time to time. However, we have to wonder whether Tesla has made any slight changes to the vehicle’s design or features since its most recent appearances.

Nevertheless, seeing the truck on public roads is encouraging, especially as there were questions in the past regarding its size in normal, everyday situations.

Tesla plans to launch deliveries sometime in Q3, so the truck is likely on its way in the near future. Musk said during the Q1 2023 Earnings Call that Tesla would have a dedicated event to launch Cybertruck deliveries, where things like trim levels and pricing would be announced.
