  • Öhlins Release Porsche 997 GT3 RS Road and Track Kit

Respected suspension maestro Öhlins has released a sublimely engineered suspension upgrade for the much vaunted Porsche 997 GT3 RS. The Swedish manufacturer has genuinely raised the bar for the Porsche aftermarket with its latest kit, offering discerning enthusiasts the chance to balance competition levels of quality, adjustment and control, with genuine everyday usability and comfort.

The kit is a unique proposition, offering a 46mm two-way adjusted shock in the front balanced by a lightweight 36mm shock in the rear with an in-line reservoir for optimum performance combined with minimal size. Perfect for maximising under-arch space for the best possible wheel and tyre set up.

The TTX46MT Club Race front strut uses a forged cylinder head and features two way adjustment for separate compression and rebound adjustment in seconds. Suitable for a 60mm spring, the unit works perfectly ‘out of the box’ but can easily be honed or adjusted by an Öhlins Approved Service centre to precisely tailor it to the driver’s precise specification.

The rear TTX36 damper unit is a perfect complement, being a twin-tube piggy back unit, boasting separate one way compression and rebound adjusters. This unit takes a 57mm spring and both front and rears are fully pressure balanced and precisely matched.

Although many companies claim to ‘trickle down’ technology from their competition programmes, it must be remembered that Öhlins was founded originally with the sole purpose of designing and manufacturing bespoke competition solutions. Öhlins engineers can only work to this one true standard, which means the new Porsche R/T kit is as much at home in the heat of genuine competition as it is on a Sunday morning ‘B’ road blast.

Öhlins is also a proud sponsor of the Porsche Club GB race series, including the new GT3 Cup Challenge, where a pure competition based package is available for those people competing in the series.

The complete R/T kit is priced at £6,136.00+ VAT

  • Cobra Suspension For The Toyota iQ

With the new Toyota iQ seeming to offer a perfectly proportioned mix of economy and ability, Cobra Springs have also added ‘excitement’ to that list.

With every road tester loving the car at its launch, but being a touch underwhelmed by its handling prowess, The Cobra kit comes as the perfect upgrade package to maintain the ride quality whilst massively improving the handling. Lowering the car by 30mm, the lower centre of gravity brings improved turn-in, pin-point accuracy and a real sense of fun, without ruining the character of the car.

The heat-treated springs are powder coated for a long and durable life – even on the UK’s salted winter roads. Each spring is cold-formed for accuracy before being heat treated for strength and durability. Finally each and every spring is shot-peened to pre fatigue the spring and eliminate sagging. This lengthy production process explains Cobra’s confidence in their product and their 5 Year warranty.

So if you fancy the ecological credentials of the superb iQ, but with a far more aggressive stance and vastly improved dynamics –  It looks like you can finally have your cake and eat it.

Two kits are available for all 2009 on cars. One kit for the 1.0 and a heavier wind for the 1.3 petrol and 1.4 diesel models. Both are priced at £139.00 + VAT and lower the respective model by 30mm all round.

  • Getting low with adjustable coilovers

Lowering your car is a must do for those who want to achieve a low ride stance and stiffen up the handling when it comes to cornering and general handling. There are a few different options when it comes to lowering your car or improving the handling.

For those who are looking for a hardcore stance and want to improve their overall handling then a set of adjustable coilovers could be an option for you.

Coilovers are available for most makes and models of vehicle as well as having different ride height options, some even adjustable dampening and camber depending on the brand you choose.
Don’t be confused by all the options, just do your research and you will find the right kit for your car.

One of the best things about adjustable coilovers is that you can change the ride height of your vehicle as often as you like.  Going to a show and want to put your car on the floor, then you can!!

Planning a long trip and need a little more comfort, simple just make a quick adjustment and your away!

Many people are still using lowering springs on their standard shockers which over time depending on the height can cause unnecessary damage, always seek professional advice before just lowering your car!
