GR SUPRA GETS A FOUR-POT ADDED

If you hated the flagship GR Supra, look away now. Toyota has added a four-pot to the line-up, but it’s said to handle far greater than the six-pot!

After months of speculation, Toyota has finally confirmed that it will introduce a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine to sit beneath the top-of-the-range 3.0-litre B58 engine. While it may offer “just” 251bhp and 195lb ft of torque, it is said to be the nimbler choice. 0-62mph is done in 5.2 seconds and all this is sent through the standard ZF auto box.

As a result of losing two cylinders, weight is down a colossal 100kg, which will hopefully help it in the twisty stuff. Not only that, but Toyota says it has perfect 50:50 weight balance. ‘To achieve agile steering and stable cornering, we worked very hard to reduce the new car’s weight, while aiming for a 50:50 weight balance,’ said GR Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada. ‘This presented us with huge challenges, but we did not want to compromise on our targets.’

Four-pot GR Supra sales are expected to start in March. We’ll bring you more info as and when we know. Question is, this or the new Yaris?
